Backwoods Bourbon



 

Ultra Premium Limited Bourbon Release.


Working on spirits is always fun for designers. At this point in time because of the proliferation of bourbon brands, thinking outside the common visual language of the category when designing brands in this space, is how smaller entries are breaking through the clutter.


For this very limited release bourbon that was positioned with an outdoor theme, our design process involved exploring a range of brand concepts – naming, story and identity – for discussion. We looked at brand expressions that were more expected for the category (that's not necessarily a bad thing), expressions that took themselves a little less seriously (dare I say slightly "fun" in a category like this), and expressions that leveraged a mature look borrowing visual cues from the more sophisticated (but not for long) wine category.


The final design feels strikingly different for the category and perfectly tells the story we set out to accomplish – slow down and take a deep breath, have a little sip, and enjoy living life outdoors.
