Symmetry: Control the Chaos

Real picture taken by a real human

Being a designer, symmetry plays a crucial role and is often employed to create visually balanced and harmonious compositions. Designers use symmetry as a powerful tool to establish a sense of order.

Symmetry also plays a significant role in our perception of beauty. When we perceive an object or a face with symmetrical features, it tends to be more aesthetically pleasing to us. (Good thing this doesn’t always hold true as the standard for beauty…anyone who knows me knows how asymmetrical my face is, lol)

This concept of beauty in symmetry can be observed all over, including art, architecture…and nature.

I was recently scrolling through the time machine on my phone, also called photographs, from a family trip to Kauai last summer and noticed a theme of symmetry with a lot of my landscape photos.

Perhaps it was the beautiful terrain and nature simply presenting the symmetry, leaving me with the only thing to do, snap a pic?

Or maybe I was seeking the symmetry? Backstory…

Last summer was anything but peaceful. Among many other things, my family experienced the pride, and the the high, of having our oldest child graduate from high school and all the excitement with that chapter of her life ending and a beautiful new one beginning.

Unfortunately, we also experienced the devastating low of losing a close family member far too soon.

It was a chaotic and unsettling summer.

In hindsight, I’m wondering now if I took those photos because I was seeking some respite during this uncontrollable time? Me trying to will a little sense of order where I could?

Dunno. Pretty pictures though. And taken by a human, a real human.
